How to clean your steam mop?

If you want to find a perfect antimicrobial and disinfecting mop, without buying toxic chemicals, then a good steam mop will be your choice. Since such mops able to work remotely, you just need to add some water in the mop reservoir. After the mop boils the water in the reservoir, you will be able to get rid of all hostile microflora on the floor. For sure, this is the best and the most efficient way to save energy and time, which you can spend on something more interesting than cleaning. Besides, it can be used on ceramic, linoleum, laminate or any other hard floor covering. But remember: after a good cleaning, your mop needs to be cleaned as well! Steam Mop Cleaning

  1. Prepare the cleaning kit and make sure the mop is unplugged!

You will need the simple cleaning kit, which includes warm water, cleanser, some baking soda and a piece of soft cloth or microfiber. The steam mop should be cold. After cleaning wait up to 15 minutes for that. However, if it’s cold, it doesn’t mean that it’s unplugged. For cleaning your mop, you must be sure, that it’s disconnected from electricity.

  1. Empty the water reservoir.

After cleaning you need to drain the water reservoir. Please, always follow this as a rule. Leaving the water inside can cause serious problems with the mop exploitation in the nearest future. It may be a reason for corrosion. So, after each steam mopping you should drain water from the tank.

  1. Clean the mop pads properly.

Almost every mop comes with reusable pads, which you can use for a long time. This is the most usable part of a mop, so it should be cleaned as sedulously as possible. For sure, you can just throw them away and buy new for every cleaning, but we want you to save your money!

  • First, detach the dirty pad from the bottom of a cleaning device.
  • Wet the cleaning pad in a simple cleanser.
  • Add a spoon of baking soda to the water.
  • Let it soak for a while. 20 minutes will be enough.
  • After the time is up, wash it to make all the dirt removed.
  • Rinse the pad carefully, make sure it’s out of soap.
  • Thoroughly dry the clean pad outdoors before applying it back to the mop.

Also, if you don’t want to waste time for this tedious process, you can just try wash machine cleaning. Use washing powder and deep cleaning option. Don’t forget to use hot water. Drying in the machine will be a good thing as well. But never use bleach. It can damage the structure of the mop pads.

  1. Wash the water tank.

Scrubbing the water tank is essential for allowing the water inside it be fresh and clean. Dampen a soft piece of cloth that you’ve prepared with warm water and manually clean the inside of the reservoir. Do it carefully, scrub lightly to get your job finished. Use the new piece of cloth if the previous one is dirty. For finishing the cleaning process, you should use the dry cloth or the paper towel. Clean outside of the tank and you’re ready to install it back again!

  1. Cleaning the unit surface.

Everything is simple in this step. Gently wipe out the entire surface of the mop with a soft cloth or sponge it off with a simple washcloth. Use a towel as in the previous step. However, don’t forget to be careful with on/off switch.

  1. Attach the water reservoir back to the mop.

After the process of cleaning is complete, you can reattach the water reservoir back to the mop. Don’t forget that you shouldn’t add water inside to store it. Add water only before the cleaning itself. To prevent the corrosion of the tank, you can also dry the reservoir of your steam mop. Previous steps should be useful for doing it.

  1. Store the unit in a proper place.
